The tradition of uncompromised integrity and service began in 1949 when John and Cora Cluxton opened Cluxton's Jewelry on the Athens' courthouse square. During the next twenty-five years this tradition provided the Tennessee Valley with fine jewelry and service second to none.  

Jimmy and Joan Harris bought the business in 1974 and expanded on the Cluxton's tradition with the addition of a bridal registry and a gift department. Cluxton's Jewelry became a member of Jewelers of America, the Alabama Jewelers Association, and the American Gem Society.

In 1998, James Kent Harris, Jr. and Joan Harris became owners of Cluxton's Jewelry. Kent is an AGS registered jeweler and holds a diamond certification from the Gemological Institute of America. He has twenty-one years of experience in jewelry design and fabrication.
